Following retiring from working life, I became the Higham Village correspondent for the Kent Messenger, which re-engaged me with the village I was born and bought up in and had kept links with in subsequent years.
The Newspaper required impartial reports on Parish Council meetings at that time and I regularly attended and became interested in the workings of the Council. Then an opportunity arose for me to join and this I accepted and considered it an honour and privilege.
My interests in wildlife conservation and the environment have proved to be helpful to Councillors with any advice I have been able to give. My work experience in logistics has also assisted in any organisational matters and decision making. Cold weather planning, liaison with local farmers on issues with trees and access and much more.
I am currently Chair of Higham Active Retirement Association (HiARA), Secretary of the Gravesham 50+ Forum, a committee member of Gravesend Town Twinning Association and serve on the Mayor of Gravesham’s charity fund raising team.
However, my main loyalty remains with Higham Parish Council to ensure the village remains a pleasant place to live in.
