I spent my schoolyears in the countryside of Higham. When I gave up a full time career with Kent County Council to start a family, my husband and I headed back to Higham where we have now lived for the past 36 years. Both of our daughters have attended playgroup and school within the village.
I applied for the position of Clerk to Higham Parish Council in 1987 and assumed my duties in October of that year, just after the village had been hit by the famous hurricane. Today, Parish Councils play a much more important role within their communities and the variety of my duties and the number of hours worked have both increased significantly. I enjoy working both in the village and for the good of its Parishioners.
Higham is a great place to live and has a tremendous Community Spirit. My memorable highlights to date would have to include our successful “NO AIRPORT AT CLIFFE” campaign, the Tour de France in 2007 and the Olympic Torch Relay in 2012.
