About Higham

The Parish of Higham nestles between the River Thames and the North Downs midway between Gravesend and Rochester. Higham has developed as two parts: the original Saxon village (Lower Higham) and a more recent settlement to the south (Upper Higham) which grew in size and importance during the 1800s. Charles Dickens, the celebrated English novelist, made Higham his home in 1856 and died at Gads Hill Place in 1870.
